Weilong must have another surgery. The syrinx is still there just as large as ever. Surgery is scheduled for 3/31.
I suspected something was wrong for the past couple of months. Weilong has started vomiting frequently again and having headaches. He had an MRI a couple of weeks ago. I got the hospital to make a copy for me, and I knew immediately that things weren't right. Then last week we went to the neurosurgeon and he confirmed what I suspected. More surgery is needed. This time they will definitely open up the dura.
Weilong is having a hard time. He understands English perfectly now and understood what the doctor was telling me. And he got angry at the doctor and cried. He kept insisting that he didn't want another surgery. My heart is aching form him. I do not want the surgery either, but there is just no choice. If we don't decrease the pressure on his little brain and spinal cord there will be serious consequences.
We both cried for about an hour. Weilong told me he was afraid he'd never be happy. So, I sucked it up and decided to act like an adult, not a whining baby. I gathered my precious little boy into my arms and promised him that he WILL be happy, that he will have a good life. I know that God promises us that his plans for us are good and I reminded Weilong of that. Weilong and I made a pact, we would have the best week possible (it's spring break) and not think about surgery til spring break was over.
And that's what we've done. We went fishing. I let Weilong ride bikes, play outside, and be just as rough as he wanted to be. I didn't fuss or worry over him, and we had a great time. At least during the day. At night Weilong is having scary dreams, about surgery. And he has cried a couple of times when he is quiet and ready for bed. I know he is dreading this surgery. I'm glad it is scheduled so quickly, less time for us to dwell on it. I want it to be over and him to be well and life to get back to normal.
